Devlog #2: Trying Our Best
With the startling realisation that we have less than a week left already until the end of the jam, we are doing our best to have a working solo gameplay demo out by this time.
Map generation is already almost done (as you can see on a screenshot below).
And we already have base types of entities established!
There are four types of cards that form our map:
- Resource - grants you one of the resources (money, food (both used for hiring and maintaining units) or energy (replenishable resource that you spend during your turn))
- Enemy - hostile cards that can either kill your unit (if they are stronger) or can be defeated for a nice reward of exp and somitimes some sort of resource
- Tree - this card, when captured, allows you to have vision of nearby cards in the area
- Empty card - just a simple space that you can go through
We can also give you a glimpse of the types of units that we are planning to have (though it is uncertain to which capacity it will be done) by the end of the jam:
- Fighter - a strong unit that should be mainly used to combat enemies and grow stronger in level
- Peasant - a speedy unit that can gather resources faster and consumes less energy to do so
Your main unit (the one you start with, and whose death means a game over for you) will be a fighter.
In the demo we plan to realise, the main objective will be to level up your main unit to a certain level within a given amount of time (we are still discussing it though).
One of our members is already working on ways to implement this as a multiplayer game and we are already trying to write our code the way that allows this transition to be not so painful!
Stay tuned to our post-jam devlog when we tell you how it all went!
